Departing for the Wilds of the East Coast of Greenland September 2023

Please note, I will be offline for the next two weeks from today while guiding my workshop for giant icebergs in the world’s most extensive fjord system on the East Coast of Greenland. If you contact me during this time, please be patient, and I will get back to you on my return.

This annual expedition has been one of the most extraordinary photographic experiences year after year. With its monolithic icebergs, Scoresby Sund offers incredible opportunities to photograph stunning icebergs against an incredible backdrop of precipitous mountains. The 2023 expedition has long been sold out, but there are a few places remaining still on the 2024 expedition in September next year. More information is available HERE.

Ultimate Polar Bears of the High Arctic Expedition 2025 SOLD OUT!

My 2025 Ultimate Polar Bears of the High Arctic expedition is now SOLD OUT – thank you to all those who have booked. This all-new, extended expedition, providing extended time up in the pack ice to photograph Polar Bears has been something I have wanted to undertake for a long time and am very much looking forward to. This 19-day expedition is an all-new opportunity to venture far north, east and west of Svalbard into the pack ice in search of Polar Bears. With 19 days, we will sail far north into the permanent pack ice, looking for and photographing the King of the Arctic. We can sail much further east and west with our extended time than all the other eight and nine-day expeditions. The extra time will give us many unique opportunities to encounter and photograph this incredible high-arctic predator.

If you missed out on this extended expedition and still wanted the opportunity to photograph Polar Bears on the ice with a small group of dedicated photographers, I will have an all-new Winter / Spring explorer expedition in April 2025. Dates are already confirmed, and the expedition will run from April 15th – April 23rd, 2025. Expressions of interest are now open, and places are limited. I will have a full PDF itinerary with cost and details available to download at the end of October this year (2023).

September 2023: Canon Issues New Firmware for EOS R3 Camera

Canon has released firmware v1.5.1 for the Canon EOS R3. It’s a relatively small firmware update that addresses named and unnamed bugs. Other cameras have also been updated, including the EOS R5 and EOS 1DX MK3.

Camera Remote Application: It is now possible to register the focus position in the preset function of the CR-A100. When used with the CR-S700R robotic camera system, it makes it easier for the photographer to focus on the intended subject distance and shoot.

It is now possible to erase only voice memos attached to images. In addition, it is now possible to add and add voice memos to protected images.

Enhanced security when sending captured images via FTPS transfer.

If you press the “Exposure Compensation/Aperture Value Setting Button” while looking through the viewfinder, you can check the time in the viewfinder.

Fixed a phenomenon in which the camera operation was rarely effective after touch operation, and [BUSY] was displayed even when the camera was operated.

<Fixed a phenomenon in which the viewfinder and monitor screen were displayed, and shooting was not possible in rare cases due to the operation of the AF-ON> button operation and the timing of the viewfinder on sensor.

Fixed minor bugs.

Finland Wild Wolves of the Taiga Forest 2023 Wrap Up

Yesterday, I wrapped up my 2023 Wild Wolves of the Taiga Forest and Golden Eagle and Eagle Owl extension workshops in northern Finland. Perhaps the first part of the workshop should have been more aptly named the Wild Bears of the Taiga Forest this year, as we had fantastic encounters with bears every day of the workshop. One day included five bears in front of the hides! We also had good encounters with both Golden Eagle and Eagle Owl. I will have a full workshop report, including photographs, on my return to Australia in late October. In the meantime, bookings are now open for the 2025 workshop – several places already spoken for. Please drop me an email to register your interest and for further information.

I am now back in Sweden and making my way to Iceland, where I will then fly to the East coast of Greenland to guide my Scoresby Sund expedition for landscapes and icebergs.

Nature’s Best Photography 2023 – Highly Honoured Polar Passion Category

The awards have just been announced for the 2023 Nature’s Best Photography competition, and happy to report the only photograph I entered this year (I don’t actually remember entering) has been Highly Honoured in the Polar Passion category. The photograph is one of my personal favourites from Gould Bay, deep in Antarctica – home to the world’s most southerly Emperor Penguin colony. You can see all the winners and highly honoured HERE.
