Photo of the Month June 2020 – Finland at Dawn

The photograph of the month for June 2020 comes from my Finland workshop in September last year (Read the Trip Report). I posted a landscape image from Finland as my April image of the month and really wanted to follow up with a subsequent landscape photograph. Like the April photograph, this image was taken very early on a still morning with rising fog by the side of a placid lake near our cabin. The soft distant trees in combination with the soft grasses, silhouetted trees and monochromatic colour palette work to portray a gentle, quiet and tranquil scene.

Although mu Finland workshop is primarily focused on Wolves, Wolverines and Bears it is worth noting that the landscape opportunities in this part of Finland in Autumn are truly superb.

New Risk Assessment for Polar Bears Released by CITES with Good News

Finally there has been some respite for Polar Bears with a new CITES risk assessment being released by the Norwegian Scientific Committee (VKM). The committee spent many months formulating a scientific opinion on the trade in polar bear products (skins) and if this trade might be detrimental to the survival of the species. In conclusion and summary: VKM was unable to find that international trade with Canadian polar bears is non-detrimental to the survival of the species. Roughly translated, the study finds that there is evidence to suggest that the trade in Polar Bear products is detrimental to the survival of the species. COVID Update Greenland Winter is Coming Expedition Delayed until 2022

As a direct result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis that originated in China and the continual travel bans and closure of countries around the world my 2020 September expedition to the East Coast of Greenland is being delayed until 2022. The decision to delay until 2022 is to ensure we are Greenland at the absolute peak time for light and ice. Full details are on my website in the Workshops link.

In essence, Flint is a modern portfolio system that easily converts your loose print images into a slick and elegant presentation for portfolios, editions, wedding albums, design books, and even digital scrap-booking. My video review of the Flint system is now online.
