Finland Wild Wolves of the Taiga Forest 2023 Limited Availability

There are just three places available now on my workshop to northern Finland this September to photograph the wild wolves of the Taiga forest. The workshop will run from September 10th – September 18th and is fully inclusive of all accommodation, food, transport and tuition for the duration of the workshop. Northern Finland is likely the best place in the world to reliably photograph wild wolves in their natural environment. In addition to the wolves, we will also likely have opportunities with Brown Bears, Wolverine, Golden Eagles, White-tailed eagles and more. To get an idea of the photographs you can make on this workshop, please visit the Finland portfolio on my website or check ou the trip report from the 2022 workshop. Please contact me if you would like further details or if you would like to secure one of the remaining places.

WNPP Episode #76 Barrow Alaska Thoughts and Impressions

I have just published episode #76 of my Wild Nature Photography Podcast. In this episode, I discuss my thoughts and impressions of the scouting trip I just completed to Barrow, Alaska and photography of the birds that inhabit the extensive Arctic Tundra in this region. The purpose of this scouting trip was to explore the potential for a future workshop in this far-flung region of Alaska, both from a photographic and infrastructure perspective. I will have a full written trip report with photographs in the next few weeks on my return to Australia. In the meantime, this podcast covers my initial thoughts and impressions on this ten-day experience.

Photograph of the Month June 2023 – Polar Bear and Ice Plates

The photograph of the month for June 2023 comes from my April Svalbard Spring Light Expedition (Read the Trip Report) and is of a young male Polar Bear in the landscape at Yoldiabukta. The incredible blue ice plates were far too tempting a subject as a foreground element, which meant placing the bear in the landscape. As such, I switched cameras in the zodiac from 600mm to 70-200mm for this photograph – I always like to photograph with two cameras in case of eventualities such as this. Opportunities like this, with both a Polar Bear and an excellent evocative foreground, do not come along very often. Just as a tease, this photograph will be included in my new book on Polar Bears, which, I hope will be released in time for Christmas 2023.
