WNPP Episode #91 I.T Infrastructure and Back Up Strategy

I have just published episode #91 of my Wild Nature Photography Podcast. In this episode, I discuss the IT infrastructure and the backup strategies I employ in my photography. Increasingly, I am asked to help specify IT hardware and advise on hardware and backup for other photographers. Much depends on your individual needs and budget, but this episode should help shed some light on my thoughts and processes regarding this complex issue.

  1. Hey Josh – great podcast as always. Since I think I was one of the ones bouncing ideas off you — I wanted to ask you to elaborate a bit on the CPU cores. Often you can get more cores at the cost of per core performance. Do you feel that LightRoom/PS have finally gotten to a point where they can scale to many cores, or should you stick with fewer faster cores instead?

Do you feel like you would make different decisions if you were not a business buying these items? I remember you wrote something for Petapixel (or similar) a few years ago, but you mentioned that, at least in Australia, a business expense ends up a lot cheaper due to the tax situation. For example, a $10,000 investment for a business would save $2000-$4000 in income tax that year, and due to deprecation continues to save money over a few years.
