For those who are interested in a future expedition to the remote north of Iceland to photograph Arctic Fox in a beautiful winter setting I have put together a short Adobe Spark Presentation and Website with some teaser photographs and some information on the expedition. Of course, more photographs are also available on my website at www.jholko.com.
Today I am kicking off what I hope will be a whole new series of videos on instructional photographic discussion and post production. This is something I have been meaning to to do for quite a while now but due to my extensive travels have not had time to shoot and edit. The silver lining in the current COVID crisis is that I have finally had the time to sit down and start to not only process some of my photographs, but also document the process and explain my post production step-by-step; as well as discuss a little of the back story behind the photographs and my thought process on the capture. If you enjoy this video please drop me a comment and let me know so that I can do more of them. It is my intention to share not only the post production process, but also my thoughts behind the actions as well as additional videos on printing and colour management. It also helps me if you hit the subscribe button in You Tube, which will mean you are always up to date on the latest video. This doesn’t mean I am turning into a ‘You Tuber’ – perish the thought! But I do want to share more from my studio and video is a wonderful means to do so.
Finally there has been some respite for Polar Bears with a new CITES risk assessment being released by the Norwegian Scientific Committee (VKM). The committee spent many months formulating a scientific opinion on the trade in polar bear products (skins) and if this trade might be detrimental to the survival of the species. In conclusion and summary: VKM was unable to find that international trade with Canadian polar bears is non-detrimental to the survival of the species. Roughly translated, the study finds that there is evidence to suggest that the trade in Polar Bear products is detrimental to the survival of the species. The report is available in english here: https://bit.ly/2Axh8t2
Topaz are offering a rather nice 15% discount off their excellent A.I Gigapixel, A.I Sharpen and A.I DeNoise products (in addition to the full suite of products). Just use the following link for the discount http://topazlabs.refr.cc/joshuaholko The photograph below of the young wolf on the border between Finland and Russia was processed in Lightroom and then upscaled for a 40″ x 60″ print using Topaz A.I Gigapixel. I will have a future video on this very soon.
As a direct result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis that originated in China and the continual travel bans and closure of countries around the world my 2020 Polar Bears of the High Arctic expedition to Svalbard is being delayed until 2021. Full details are on my website in the Workshops link.
