Snow Leopards of Mongolia and Pallas Cat 2021 Sold Out

In December next year I will be leading a brand new small group expedition to Western Mongolia in winter to find and photograph the enigmatic Snow Leopard. Originally planned for December 2020, the expedition has been pushed back a year as a result of the ongoing COVID situation. Due to the initial interest I received after my Pallas Cat report the expedition is sold out. Some of us will also be partaking in a small group extension to find and photograph the Pallas Cat. If you were keen to photograph Snow Leopard in winter my drop me an email as there is already a waiting list on a possible future 2022 expedition. Photograph below courtesy my guide in Mongolia.

Greenland Arctic Expedition Feedback

Just wanted to share some wonderful feedback I received this morning regarding one of my previous Greenland expeditions.

Had a terrific time on this trip – enjoyed every single minute. The greenlandic landscape/ icescape is everything I hoped for and more. Enjoyed the geographic isolation. Good mix of locations and shooting from ship, zodiac and shore. Met some great people. Josh was a great host – so I’m anxious to join several of his other Arctic trips in the near future. Jerry.

You can read the trip report fromt his expedition HERE. You can also check out the Spark presentation on Greenland HERE.

I will soon be announcing a new expedition into Kaiser Franz Josef on the East Coast of Greenland in August of 2023. Stand by for further details and information on this new expedition that will take us deep inside the rarely visited National Park region of East Greenland.

Arctic Fox Expedition COVID Delay Update 2020

With the ongoing COVID pandemic and the continuing uncertainty surrounding international travel I have taken the decision today to delay the planned 2021 Arctic fox expedition to Northern Iceland until 2022. New dates for the expedition are the 9th – 14th February 2022. A detailed PDF itinerary of the expedition can be downloaded HERE and more details are available on my website. If you would like to get more of an idea what participation in this workshop is like be sure to read this years Trip Report.

For those who are interested in this expedition to the remote north of Iceland to photograph Arctic Fox in a beautiful winter setting I have put together a short Adobe Spark Presentation and Website  with some teaser photographs and some information on the expedition. Of course, more photographs are also available on my website at www.jholko.com.

COVID Update Antarctica Emperor Penguins Expedition Delayed until 2022

As a direct result of the continuing COVID-19 crisis that originated in China and the continual travel bans and closure of countries around the world my 2020 November expedition to Gould Bay in Antarctica to photograph Emperor Penguins is being delayed until 2022. This expedition remains sold out. Full details are on my website in the Workshops link.

Photo of the Month August 2020 – Finland Grey Wolf

Finland has rapidly become one of my favourite destinations in the world for wildlife photography. In fact, if I could only choose one place on earth to photograph wildlife for the rest of my days it would certainly be Finland (Greenland for landscapes). It’s not just the sheer variety of  incredible wildlife on offer, but its also the wonderful seasons that form the perfect backdrop. Winter presents a snow and ice covered landscape that forms the perfect clean white canvas for wildlife, whilst Autumn is a combination of fiery yellows and oranges, soft grasses and gentle light. The differing seasons and transitions in between provide a dynamic, fresh and constantly changing environment for photography that provides limitless opportunities.

This photograph of a Grey Wolf in no mans land between Finland and Russia was taken late last year from a private hide I had set up in an area the wolf pack was frequenting. Shot on the very cusp of winters arrival, the Autumn colours have faded and we are presented with a soft pastel forest beginning the inevitable transition into to its winter coat. The muted colour pallet really speaks to me, along with those wonderfully piercing eyes of the wild Wolf.
