Does the R3 have a lossless compressed RAW file? This might help with the buffer/processor issues you are running into.
Without being too deep into it, imagine it keeps the CPU busy for 10 cycles to write an image to the card. It is possible that the compression takes 5 cycles and then copying the compressed file to the card takes 3 cycles, saving 2. Compression has a more noticeable effect with slower cards, so with faster cards, it is possible that compressing files reduces the performance of the camera. I’ve long been a fan of lossless compressed and almost never use the uncompressed raws.
